Portorož Women4Sport Conference

On October 15th 2024, the coastal town of Portorož, Slovenia, hosted a conference that serves as part of the Erasmus+ Women4Sport project, an initiative dedicated to achieving gender equality in leadership and decision-making within the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of the Western Balkans. The project seeks to address structural changes in governance, overcome cultural barriers, and encourage collaboration between NOCs and their federations to drive sustainable progress.

The event took place during the “Slovenian Olympic Committee Days” and included a roundtable discussion focused on enhancing gender equality in sports. The conference aimed to promote the Women4Sport project, raise awareness of gender issues in sports organizations, and encourage greater participation of women in leadership roles.

The conference featured women in senior positions within sports organizations who shared their success stories and best practices. Their contributions served as a source of inspiration for participants, showcasing tangible steps toward structural reforms.

A central theme of the discussions was the critical role sports organizations play in shaping inclusive sports cultures and advancing gender equality. Despite progress in some areas, women remain underrepresented in governance and decision-making positions in many sports institutions, underscoring the need for systemic change.
