The Croatian Olympic Committee organized a series of training sessions and workshops throughout the summer aimed at empowering female club members involved in sports. The primary focus was to introduce them to leadership roles within sports organizations and to equip them with the skills necessary to effectively present themselves to the media. Despite the Croatian NOC having a substantial representation of women in sports and within sports clubs, many women are hesitant to apply for leadership positions. This reluctance is often due to a lack of confidence, knowledge, and experience in media communication and self-presentation within their federations.
A significant added value of these initiatives was the decision to hold all training sessions in smaller and more remote areas of Croatia, including island communities such as Cres and Ugljen islands. These regions have a considerable number of female athletes, yet often face limited access to professional development opportunities. By organizing the workshops in these locations, the Croatian NOC provided vital chances for local female athletes and sports enthusiasts to develop their leadership potential, gain visibility, and build confidence in their capabilities.
Building on these efforts, the Croatian NOC conducted the “Women4Sport” training and the workshop titled “Voices of Women in Sport” during June and July. These events took place in various locations: Crikvenica on June 7th, Cres Island on June 18th, and Ugljen Island on June 11th. Renowned speakers included Morana Pavlikovic Gruden, Mia Bacic, and representatives from the National Television, who shared their insights on media communication, leadership, and the importance of women’s voices in sports. Their expertise provided valuable guidance and inspiration to the participants, encouraging them to pursue leadership roles and advocate for gender equality in sport.
These venues were carefully chosen to maximize outreach among women athletes and sports enthusiasts in underrepresented areas. The workshops aimed to inspire women to take on more prominent roles in sport governance, media communication, and organizational leadership, emphasizing the importance of their voices and contributions to the sporting community.
Overall, these initiatives reflect Croatia’s ongoing commitment to fostering gender equality in sports and promoting the professional growth of women athletes and sports administrators across the country, especially in geographically and socially isolated regions. The Croatian NOC remains dedicated to supporting women in sport, recognizing that empowered women leaders are essential for sustainable development and inclusive growth within the sports sector.
